The award-winning road-safety Road Show came to Aberdeenshire in 2005.

The multi-media show with live performances targetted young people who are approaching driving age and aimed to leave them with a very hard hitting and hard to forget message about their vulnerability on the road.

It was held at Thainstone Mart, Inverurie on the 8th 9th & 10th of November 2005. It was attended by 3,500 teenagers from 30 schools in Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City. You can look at photographs taken at the Road Show.

Chief Inspector Mark Mclaren, Head of Roads Policing, Grampian Police said:

"Grampian Police were proud to be able to play a part in this partnership initiative aimed at reducing road casualties. The commitment, professionalism, humanitarianism and sheer sincerity of all those involved was undoubtedly a remarkable and sobering experience for those in our wider communities who were privileged enough to attend. Clearly, the initiative bodes well for the future of shared determination towards making our roads safer through education and example. All of the individuals and partner agencies involved should be justifiably proud of their efforts. "

Colin Walker, Local Authority Liaison Officer with Grampian Police said:

"We knew that this style of road safety message was going to be hard hitting and challenging for the youthful audience, however if we save some young peoples lives as a result of what they experienced at the show, then we can be satisfied with our efforts."

Andy Coueslant, Group Manager with Grampian Fire and Rescue Service said:

"Grampian Fire and Rescue Service is committed to reducing risk of all types in the Grampian area. This includes improving road safety. As part of the team which contributed to Safe Drive Stay Alive, we are pleased to have had the opportunity to contribute to such an exciting and important initiative. We firmly believe that the Fire and Rescue Service can make a significant difference in this field and look forward to working with all our partners on similar projects which will improve the safety of our communities and those who drive in the north east."

William Munro, Chair of the Aberdeenshire Community Safety Partnership said:-

"Safe Drive Stay Alive has been an ambitious project setting out to put across a very hard hitting message to young people as they approach driving age. It was an excellent example of partnership and team working with a range of different organisations and professional disciplines coming together sharing enthusiasm and commitment to the goal.

"Seeing the effect on the 4000 or so people who saw the show was quite unbelievable. I am in no doubt that this has got the message across and, although the results will be long term, if young people remember the message and act upon it, then all the hard work will have been worth it.

"As Chair of the Aberdeenshire Community Safety Partnership, I would like to thank the 60 or so people who helped to bring the project to fruition, Grampian Fire and Rescue Service, Grampian Police, NHS Grampian, Scottish Ambulance Service and of course Karen Tremain, Trev Eakin and Helen McIntyre for giving so generously of their time and experiences for the benefit of our young people. I would also like to thank Exxonmobil for their support, those involved in Fife who gave us help and advice, Aberdeenshire Council Media Unit and 20-20 Vision."

The Aberdeenshire Community Safety Partnership comprises a range of organisations with a part to play in "Making Aberdeenshire a Safer Place". In particular, for this project there is close co-operation and participation by Aberdeenshire Council, Grampian Police, Grampian Fire and Rescue Service, Scottish Ambulance Service, NHS Grampian and Aberdeen City Council.
