Resolving conflict in local communities
|
WHAT IS MEDIATION ?
- Mediation is a way of dealing with disputes that helps those involved reach an agreement which everyone can live with.
- Mediators are independent people who will listen to all sides and help find common ground.
- Mediation is free, voluntary and confidential, and can stop problems getting out of hand.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN ?
- A mediator will visit you to hear about the difficulty and discuss options with you.
- If you agree, they visit the other person/people involved and hear their views.
- If everyone wishes to, we will help all concerned work out a mutually acceptable agreement.
WHY DOES IT WORK ?
- Mediation concentrates on practical solutions for the future.
- The agreement made is yours - the mediators just help you reach it.
- Mediation aims to improve the situation for everyone involved.
MORE THAN 90% OF FACE TO FACE MEDIATIONS END IN AGREEMENT
