Youngsters across Aberdeenshire can enjoy the area's swimming pools over the summer holidays without having to splash out. A Summer Splash 2006 encourages 11 to 16-year-olds to use local pools by providing access at less than half price. Thanks to funding from Aberdeenshire Community Safety Partnership, young people will pay just 60p a session rather than the usual £1.30 at any of the region's 14 swimming pools. Youngsters can get maximum benefit by buying a book of 12 swimming tickets which would normally cost £16.50 for just £6. Aberdeenshire Council's education and recreation committee chairman Richard Stroud said: "This is a great scheme and we hope young people will make good use of it." As well as the discounted swimming on offer, reduced travel is on offer through a partnership with bus company Stagecoach. People of the same age group using the firm's scheduled services to get to pools will be able to get free return voucher journeys. Details are available from pools and at www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/recreation |
