Scottish Government - National Debate on Young Driver Safety

Are you a Young Driver (aged 17-25) or the parent/carer of a Young Driver? If so the Scottish Government would like to hear from you.

Every year around 24,000 younger drivers pass their test in Scotland and as many as 1 in 5 will be involved in a crash in their first six months of independent driving. Throughout the UK, 1 in 8 British drivers are under 25, but a quarter of drivers who die in traffic collisions are in this age group.

This is your chance to share your views on the interventions that might make a difference.

The short online questionnaire will take no more than five minutes to complete. The study team would like your views on key issues such as:

• Is enough practical training given to learner drivers?
• Should there be a probationary period for young, newly qualified drivers?
• How would you feel about restrictions for young, newly qualified drivers on the number of passengers they could carry or on driving at night?
• Would "black boxes" in cars change the way that people drive?
• Education and awareness campaigns – do they make a difference?
