The Grampian Neighbourhood Watch Association![]() |
The Grampian Neighbourhood Watch Association covering Schemes operating in Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen has been set up.
Full information is available from the Grampian Neighbourhood Watch Association web site.
If you want to know more check the Frequently Asked Questions on this web site.
Q1. WHAT IS THIS ALL ABOUT ?
A. A watch scheme is an organised grouping of neighbours in a street or flats. A NW association is a grouping of schemes in a locality. This new association links all watch schemes and associations in the north east to the national (ie Scottish) association.
Q2. WHAT SCOTTISH ASSOCIATION ?
A. The Association of Scottish Neighbourhood Watches (ASNW) is a new body monitored by the Scottish Executive, replacing the national (UK) association which now only represents England and Wales. ASNW is a registered charity with representatives from the regions. The north east currently has two reps at ASNW.
Q3. WHAT HAS THAT TO DO WITH ME ?
A. At present, NW here does not have any funds. Becoming organised means that the training of scheme reps, training of persons to start new schemes, road shows, publicity, and so on, will have funds obtained locally or nationally.
Q4. WHO IS RUNNING THE SHOW ?
A. A 'steering committee' of NW enthusiasts has agreed a draft constitution.
Q5. WHO CHOSE THESE 'ENTHUSIASTS' ?
A. Grampian Police kindly broadcast to all schemes able to receive the Weekly Bulletins an invitation to express their views on the future of NW. Those who replied, plus members of existing associations, formed the steering committee.
Q6. WHY 'PROVISIONAL' ?
A. The draft constitution can be found at Grampian Neighbourhood Watch Association web site. Copies will be issued also at meetings and through associations. If you do not have home access to the internet, consult your local library/learning centre. The document is written in formal style, as are all such documents. Nonetheless, your questions, comments and suggestions are welcome and should be sent back through the source you received the draft from. The draft will then be updated for the launch.
Q7. HOW WILL THE ASSOCIATION ASSIST WATCH SCHEMES ?
A. NW is a method of passing home security advice to citizens and of communicating with the police. The intention is to make all this more efficient and effective. A watch will be able to raise problems with NW and there will be a newsletter. Every watch scheme and association will be entitled to apply for membership of the association and will have a voice.
Prepared by the steering committee. Revised 22/08/2005
